After damaging some of my Dad’s roses by digging up clay to make things as a child, I went on to study ceramics through a degree and masters degree, and have continued my practice over thirty years, through being an artist in residence in schools, further education lecturer and ceramic technician at the Glasgow School of Art. I’m now a full time maker, with a studio at home, near Lochwinnoch, Scotland.
I use clay to tell stories, making illustrations of poems, proverbs and my own narratives, such as the Pudding Girl who has a lot of spoons. The work combines needle drawn lines with underglaze stains, decals, onglaze enamels and luster. It often takes the form of wall panels, clocks, and occasionally ceramic books with moveable pages.
A large influence on my work were three residencies in China. My work is in the collection of two Chinese museums, at the International Ceramics Studio, Hungary, and the Aberystwyth ceramics collection.
